I work as a Project Officer at the Victorian Aboriginal Corporation for Languages. My Mother Tongue is Woiwurrung, the language of the Wurundjeri people of south central Victoria with the Birrarung (Yarra) which flows right through its middle.
Through my work, I assist Indigenous communities develop language resources and manage their language projects. Some of these projects include storybooks and games in language.
I am often out and about at community events, preschools, kindergartens, primary schools, secondary colleges and universities conducting workshops relating not only to art, dance and culture, but also language.
Here is an example of what I create to assist in language acquisition. Please note: Woiwurrung like all Victorian Indigenous languages are in "Revival Mode", so permission must be sought from the custodians of the language. This project, through Yarra Ranges Council, is fully endorsed by Wurundjeri Elders
These language cards are produced for the Yarra Valley region preschools, but are useful for any age. They are currently out of print
